Clearing off the Workbench: Geared Up for Common Core

Preparing All Things Common Core to provide an easy-to-use collaborative tool for teachers and curriculum specialists tackling the transition to Common Core Standards is going to be an exciting project.

The development coincides with the release of the newest version of Drupal, Drupal 7, an immense step forward for Drupal in terms of functionality and usability. I'm excited to be able to really dig in to what we can do both to meet the needs of the users AND to explore the resources that Drupal 7 gives us.

Prior to the Common Core Standards Initiative, each state crafted their own set of standards defining what was important for students to know and be able to do.  As you can imagine there was a lot of inconsistency from one state to the next. This was compounded further when No Child Left Behind (NCLB) required that all states be held accountable for 100% of their student population reaching ‘Proficiency’ as measured on state determined assessments.

What’s all this to-do about Common Core Standards?

Without a doubt, common core standards are taking hold around the United States. At the time of this writing only 9 states in the U.S. had not yet adopted them.
